A wedding to remember || A Hindu – Jewish Fusion Wedding Ceremony

Today I am bringing to you a very notable interfaith wedding. It’s a cultural extravaganza, full of heart and sentiment, and will be very inspiring for those planning or even thinking of an interfaith wedding ceremony

One of the most beautiful things about wedding is that it blends together two lives as one – two backgrounds, two viewpoints on life, two families, and sometimes two religions. A wedding , no matter how big or small, is firstly about Love. Couple like Tanay and Miriam are very unique. They get married to make each other happy. I witnessed that happiness while shooting their wedding They say, ” we have been a couple for a long time so we’ve essentially felt like a married couple long before we actually got married. The wedding ceremony, ‘making it official’ felt so right; it was closing the circle, connecting the dots so that the rest of the world’s view point finally lined up with the way we see our relationship”

Let’s first shed some light on how these two wonderful souls met… A couple of years ago, handsome Tanay and gorgious Miriam had found their love in Brighton, UK. They met when Tanay was in 2nd year and Mirian was in 1st year. And they fall in love with each other . After 12 years of togetherness they finally got hitched and it was like ‘A dream come true’. These two and their families had so much love to give. Friends and relatives came together to make moment special. I’m glad that we got a chance to be a part of that.

Tanay and Miriam’s wedding held at Tanay’s hometown, Gurgaon, Haryana. The wedding planners worked hard to make the venue look spectacular and totally different for each day! Tanay’s family took so much care to make this a grand and traditional affair and it helped make the venue just amazing. When everything fell in place, one could expect the output to be a great one. These were few of the candid moments that were caught through my Lens!

Thank you for shooting Our Special Day. Our experience working with you was fantastic and the pictures you captured are outstanding and really captured the magic of the day.

– Tanay & Miriam

Tanay is Panjabi Brahmin and Miriam is jewish. This means so many contrast of their traditions. So,Miriam was not very close to Panjabi rituals. This was for the first time when we got to cover a Hindu – Jewish wedding, and it was a dream project for me. Punjabi weddings are colorful, loud, sometimes over the top, fun filled with lots of opportunities for singing and dancing one’s heart out which kept me on my feet for consecutive 3 days.

The first day of wedding ceremony started with Mahendi and sangeet. The major function before the wedding was decoration with temporary henna. Mehndi artists were called to the houses. The boy and girl are apply mehendi to the palms of the female family members, and the hands and feet of the bride. There is a sangeet function on the evening of same day.

On the wedding day the rituals at the girl’s side begin with the Chura ceremony. Chura is basically a set of red and cream ivory bangles. Other side, after dressing up of the groom in his wedding attire, his sister tied the sehra on the groom’s head. After that the final ceremony at the groom’s place was Ghori Chadna and Barat .the groom along with the wedding procession arrives at the wedding venue. They are met at the entrance by the bridal party. The actual wedding ceremony itself is hugely traditional, filled with religious acts and deeper philosophical meaning, and is maintained by the priest. It takes 3-4 hours.

After the wedding ceremony, the couple received many congratulations from their friends, as well as listening to some truly emotional and moving speeches delivered by pandit. The celebrations carried out into the night as friends and family took full advantage of the dance floor and celebrated the union of the happy couple. My effort was to tell a tiny story in every frame. I love to frame their precious moments of their lives which they will cherish throughout their lifetime. Here’s a glimpse into the beginning of their beautiful story together..
